Why We Built DataOnDeck

DataOnDeck was born out of firsthand frustration with the messy, manual world of private market reporting. After years in private equity operations, I saw founders losing hours each quarter to repetitive formatting, inconsistent templates, and endless back-and-forth with stakeholders. We built DataOnDeck to eliminate that chaos. Instead of reformatting data for every investor, LP, ESG reviewer, or lender, founders can now submit once and let the platform handle the rest. A key insight shaped our approach: after reviewing dozens of investor requests, we realized that most were asking for the same core metrics, just packaged differently. Founders were spending unnecessary time fielding duplicate requests, often for data already shared in another format. That’s when it clicked: the problem wasn’t the data — it was the delivery. We saw an opportunity to centralize submissions and route them more intelligently. The result is a founder-first reporting platform that turns a single upload into clean, permission-aware reports — ready to be shared with an unlimited number of stakeholders. Less friction. More focus.

Our Values

1

Founder-First by
Design

We build with empathy for time-strapped founders. Our product adapts to their workflow — not the other way around.

2

Simplicity Over Complexity

Reporting shouldn’t feel like compliance. We obsess over clarity, clean interfaces, and
workflows that just make sense.

3

One Submission, Infinite Outputs

Every stakeholder wants something different. We make sure founders don’t have to
Submit the same data twice.

4

Transparency and Control

We believe in giving teams full visibility into what’s shared, with whom, and when down to the field level.

5

Build for Trust

Data integrity, versioning, and audit trails aren’t optional. They’re foundational.

6

Iterate with Purpose

We’re constantly improving — guided by feedback, not feature bloat.

The Road Ahead

✔ Expand stakeholder templates

We’ll launch lightweight data exports and syncs to commonly used platforms like internal wikis, dashboards, and collaboration tools — helping founders bring reporting data into their broader workflow without manual copy-paste.

✔ Add export-to-PDF preview

Stakeholders will be able to leave contextual comments on specific metrics or sections, creating a transparent feedback loop and cutting down on email threads.

✔ Add export-to-PDF preview

Before finalizing a submission, users will be able to generate a live preview of what stakeholders will see, reducing back-and-forth and formatting surprises.
